Marriage That Saves Life

There was Tobias, on his wedding day. No reason for him not to be afraid. His bride, Sarah, was convinced by everyone that she is cursed. She had married seven men but through the work of the demon Asmodeus, each man died on their wedding night before consummating the marriage. However, God, through the Archangel Raphael, told Tobias not to be afraid to take Sarah as his bride. For Tobias would save Sarah.

This demonic works started since the fall of the first men, Adam and Eve. Since Adam and Eve exchange the truth of God for a lie, the original plan of sexual had degraded into sexual lust.  Ever since, every man and every woman have to struggle to express the true ‘spousal meaning’ of their body. They have to struggle to hold God and sex together. Because the eros was cut off from the agape. That was happened to Sarah and her seven marriages before. And that’s the common failure of modern marriages too. Satan succeeded to separate the eros from the agape. Eros without agape must be ‘lust love’ and it leads to death.

But Tobias prayed. He prayed a prayer that saved them both. A prayer that consecrated their love. A prayer that cried out to God to help them to get the eros united to the agape again. A prayer that made their marriage as a liturgy, a saving liturgy.

Tobias took Sarah not for lust. He and his prayer had made his marriage filled with agape. Tobias’ passion for Sarah is imbued with the fire of agape. The fire that burned from his deepest desire to love Sarah rightly, to love her as God loves her.

There was Tobias, on his wedding day. No reason for him not to be worry. But Raphael said, “Do not worry about the demon.” Why shouldn’t they worry? Because “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.” (1 John 4:18) Yes, perfect love casts out fear and perfect love saves life. Tobias and Sarah had overcome lust. They opened their union to God. The God Who proclaims Himself as the way, and the truth, and the life. (John 14:6) Their marriage union brought the Life into them.
